Nisab is the minimum qualifying wealth threshold used in Zakat calculations. It is commonly expressed using a gold or silver benchmark, then converted into your local currency using a price you enter.

Why gold and silver can give different amounts

Gold and silver have different market values, so their thresholds can be materially different. Scholars and local authorities may recommend different approaches. This site shows the arithmetic for the basis and price you choose; it does not select a religious ruling.

How to use a Nisab calculator

  1. Choose the gold or silver basis that applies to your situation.
  2. Enter a current price per gram in your currency.
  3. Compare the resulting threshold with your net Zakatable wealth.

The threshold calculation

The calculator multiplies the benchmark weight for the basis you choose by the price per gram you enter. For example, if a selected benchmark is 85 grams and the entered price is 60 in your currency per gram, the resulting threshold is 5,100. The example illustrates the calculation only; confirm the benchmark, price date, and approach with a qualified local authority.

Avoid comparing unlike dates

A Nisab result is only as current as the commodity price used. Record the date and source of your price, use the same currency as your asset total, and revisit the threshold on your Zakat date rather than relying on an old figure from a search result or social post.

Important context

Your result depends on the price, currency, asset treatment, debts, and Hawl assumptions you use. Check the date of your price and consult a qualified local authority when you need a ruling.
