What is 2048?
2048 is a sliding-number puzzle on a 4×4 grid. When you move in a direction, all tiles slide that way. Two tiles with the same number merge into one with double the value — two 4s become an 8, two 8s become a 16, and so on.
Gabriele Cirulli built the web version in 2014, inspired by earlier games like Threes! It spread fast because the rules take thirty seconds to learn but the strategy runs deep. Reaching the 2048 tile feels like a milestone; many players keep going to 4096 or beyond.

How to Play 2048
- 1.The board starts with two tiles — usually 2s, occasionally a 4.
- 2.Press arrow keys or swipe to slide every tile in that direction.
- 3.When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one tile with double the value.
- 4.After each valid move, a new 2 or 4 appears in a random empty cell.
- 5.Your score increases by the value of every merge in that move (merging two 8s adds 16 to your score).
- 6.Keep merging until you create a 2048 tile — or push further if you can.
- 7.The game ends when the grid is full and no adjacent merges are possible.
- 8.Try to keep your largest tile in a corner and build toward it.
- 9.Press New Game anytime to reset the board and score.

- • Pick a corner — bottom-right is popular — and keep your highest tile there.
- • Build tiles in descending order along one edge (e.g. 512 → 256 → 128).
- • Never swipe toward your corner unless you must; it dislodges your biggest tile.
- • Keep at least two empty cells whenever possible for new spawns.
- • Plan two or three moves ahead before committing to a direction.
- • Avoid random up/down toggling — pick a primary direction pair (left/down or right/down).
- • When the board is tight, look for a merge that creates space instead of chasing points.
