Use Arrow Up/Down or W/S to move your paddle (vs AI)

What is Pong?

Pong recreates table tennis with two paddles and a bouncing ball. You move your paddle vertically to intercept the ball and send it back. Miss the ball, and your opponent scores.

Atari released Pong in 1972. It was not the first electronic game ever built, but it was the first to find a mass audience — arcade cabinets, home consoles, and living-room competitions followed. Its two-knob simplicity made video games feel approachable for everyone.

This version supports local two-player mode or solo play against AI. It appeals to retro collectors, parents introducing kids to classic games, and anyone who wants a quick head-to-head without learning complex rules.

Why Play Pong?

How to Play Pong

  1. 1.The ball starts moving toward one side from the centre of the court.
  2. 2.Player 1 controls the left paddle with W (up) and S (down).
  3. 3.Player 2 controls the right paddle with Arrow Up and Arrow Down when AI is off.
  4. 4.With AI enabled, you play left paddle using Arrow Up/Down or W/S; the computer moves the right paddle.
  5. 5.Hit the ball with the paddle face to send it back at an angle.
  6. 6.Top and bottom walls bounce the ball; left and right edges are out of bounds for scoring.
  7. 7.If the ball passes your paddle, your opponent earns 1 point.
  8. 8.The first player to 5 points wins the match.
  9. 9.Press New Game to reset scores. Use Toggle AI to switch between solo and two-player.
  10. 10.Click the game area first if arrow keys scroll the page — focus keeps keys on the paddle.

Tips and Strategies

  • Meet the ball with the paddle centre for predictable returns.
  • Angle shots by hitting with the paddle edge to make returns harder.
  • Return to centre court when the ball is on the far side.
  • Against AI, vary timing so your returns are less predictable.
  • Use small adjustments — big swings overshoot fast balls.
  • Watch the ball's vertical angle after each bounce off the top or bottom wall.
  • In two-player mode, bait your opponent toward one corner then switch direction.
