How to Calculate BMR

BMR calculation with Mifflin-St Jeor formula.

BMR is the calories your body burns at complete rest — breathing, circulation, cell production. It accounts for 60–75% of total daily expenditure for sedentary people.

Step-by-step

  1. Convert weight to kg and height to cm if needed.
  2. Apply Mifflin-St Jeor: BMR = 10×weight + 6.25×height − 5×age + s.
  3. Use s = +5 for males, s = −161 for females.
  4. Compare with Harris-Benedict if curious (Mifflin is generally more accurate).
  5. Multiply BMR by activity factor (1.2–1.9) to get TDEE.
  6. Calculate yours with our BMR Calculator.
